Telestroke Network

Patients suffering a stroke in SW Scotland will now be able to have assessment by video link – saving vital time in providing thrombolysis if required.  The initiative has been driven by the Scottish Centre for Telehealth working with healthboards; it is anticipated that this service will be in place in 12 of the 14 healthboard areas for Scotland over the coming 12 months.

Dumfries and Galloway Standard reports on this progress.

Press Don’t Panic

Although not a specifically Telecare item, Press Don’t Panic is a possible component of an individual’s care plan which practitioners should be aware of.  It is effectively an audible version of those well known medical alert jewellery items, invented by Sam Docherty, whose story was featured  in the Southern Reporter last week in a summary much the same as his presentation at the LTCAS conference on Tuesday of this week.

This product is not limited to those who have seizures; there are a wide range of situations where it may be a solution.  It is available to purchase now through the website and the company are continuing in developing and marketing the product.  Take a look at Press Don’t Panic and see for yourself how this product can enable people to regain their confidence and independence.

Upcoming Events

For starters this week – upcoming events:

Tuesday 22 March 2011:  Long Term Conditions Alliance Scotland hold their annual conference and AGM

“Public Service Reform and Long Term Conditions: Working with people; building communities” http://www.ltcas.org.uk/events.html

Although this event is not technology related the context in which the care sector will operate in the future is being discussed and this will have a contribution to directing the use of technology in care.  I know that the bookings were almost full on Friday – if you are not able to attend I will share any relevant messages after the event here.

Also on Tuesday 22 March Tunstall have their next Customer Focus Day at Houstoun House Hotel, Uphall with a theme of “Sharing Good Practices – Planning Better Services Together”

On Wednesday 23 March 2011 the next Telecare Steering Group Meeting (Procurement Strategy) takes place in Leith.

Hope to see some of you  at one or other of these; each event offers the opportunity to shape our Telecare or Telehealth strategy within the rapidly changing Scottish Care Sector.
